For this edition’s club spotlight, I shall show you a small club that, in my completely unbiased opinion, doesn’t get talked about enough in the school. This club is the robotics club, also known as MVS Rambotics. The team makes a robot each year that will perform well in the challenge that FIRST creates. While currently in the offseason, Rambotics was busy during the winter, building their robot, Jarlsberg, pictured below.

Driven by team president Caleb Meeker, the robot uses its arm and claw to reach for game pieces. Many hours were spent by the team to perfect the robot and make it as consistent as possible for competitions. This included redesigning the claw to make it more efficient and coding an autonomous for that section of each competition. The competitions MVS Rambotics attended included the Dayton Invitational at Sinclair Community College, the Van Wert Qualifier, and the Miami Qualifier at Miami University. At the Van Wert competition, the team won the Motivate Award, given to the team that embraces the culture of FIRST and clearly shows what it means to be a team. Below you can see a picture of the team being proud of their win.

As for the team’s plans for the offseason, they will plan and host the Maker’s Fair, which will show robotics off to students who want to learn more about what the team does. Additionally, they are working with the school to offer a class for middle school students to encourage them to join the team. Speaking of, the team could always use more hands, so if you have any knowledge on building, coding, or outreach to companies for sponsorships, be sure to be on the lookout for club sign-ups next school year. A sneak peek for next season’s challenge has already been shown, so get hype! Next season will be a blast!
