This edition’s Teacher Spotlight features Ms. Mullins, the new High School Biology teacher at MVS. She teaches both Bio I and Bio II.
Ms. Mullins has had quite the journey before joining Miami Valley School. While originally from Dayton, she moved to Florida for college, where she pursued her undergraduate in biochemistry. After completing her graduate degree in education, she taught in Colorado before returning to Dayton to consult for Dayton Children’s Hospital. Her research is in biology, particularly on sea slugs, and she worked at the Keys Marine Lab, where she spent time diving off the coast. The Middle School “Under The Sea: Marine Ecology” immersion also went there! She’s very excited to be teaching biology at MVS.
While not at MVS, Ms. Mullins enjoys competitive climbing, skiing, running, and “high-adrenaline activities” such as skydiving and caving (she even caved in Ireland two years ago!). She also loves to read, with The Outsiders being one of her favorite books. She has a cat named Cinco, and has six nieces and nephews.
When asked about what makes students at MVS different, she said that she already notices that
“students here take personal accountability for their learning”. It’s always exciting to have new teachers at MVS, and we can’t wait to see all the great things she’ll do this year and beyond.
That’s all for this week’s Teacher Spotlight! Be sure to leave suggestions for who you’d like to see featured next!
