This year, the Spanish Honors Society is taking exciting new steps to bring Spanish culture to the Miami Valley School’s community and to help Hispanic and Latin Americans struggling in the Dayton area. They have been hard at work, and over the course of the first semester, the club has raised a shocking $1300 for two charities: El Puente Dayton and Latino Justice. Through hosting a fun Holiday Gift Sale for lower schoolers, alongside a Sweets Sale outside of the All School Sing in December, the club brought members of the MVS community together in some holiday fun while fundraising for the fight against ethnic and racial discrimination. This club is evolving rapidly, bringing in new ideas, events, and most importantly, a clearer mission: to make a positive impact on the struggling and underrepresented Hispanic and Latin communities within Dayton and beyond.
Spanish Honors Society has had a successful and productive year so far, but they are not stopping, and there are several ways you, yes YOU, can get involved within the growing events of the club. First of all, if you are a student, the Spanish Honors Society will be hosting special community service days within the Dayton area this semester (You’re welcome, seniors). These days will focus on helping with volunteering for El Puente Dayton, and they will take place after school on weekdays. The dates for these special community service days are still in the planning phase, as scheduling with El Puente is still in progress. What this means is that you should watch out for more updates in your email, at morning announcements, or on the Spanish Honors Society Instagram page! (Go follow now!)
Now there is one final piece of information the Spanish Honors Society would like you to know. The club is planning on spearheading a Spanish Culture Event Night! In mid April during World Language Week, the club plans on informing the community about current pressing events regarding Spanish culture within our area, how to get involved, and why it matters, all while delivering an enjoyable experience with movies, food, and more. Get ready to bring your friends to this upper-school-wide event that you won’t want to miss. As the club produces the event, stay listening for updates at morning announcements and your email, so get excited! Everyone in the Spanish Honors Society has been working so hard this year to reach their goals of helping out the Hispanic and Latino community as best they can through their events and donations, and this fun night will be the culminating project of the whole year. The Spanish Honors Society hopes to see you at the Spanish Night!
