Writing is a dream. Perhaps it may even dare to edge ever so delicately (I jest; writing is a deeply disturbing, benumbingly visceral act) into nightmarish territory, but I’ll insist that it has played the unyielding savior in my life to no end. For me, the act of putting ink to paper—of codifying the swirling thoughts that etch reruns of themselves into my mind—is simply sacred. It is a platform for the ordinary, the vaudevillian, the horrific; it is a plane upon which the foreign and the familiar can find a way to coexist and divide the universe between themselves in a kind of unsettling cosmological union. And now you can be a part of that.
I am thrilled to announce that, after nearly two decades of dormancy, a literary magazine publication, Aesthesia, will be making its “debut” at MVS. I’d like to personally thank Mrs. Ugwummadu and Mx. Patterson for the invaluable time and dedication they’ve both pressed into the tender palms of this flowering project, and to publicly acknowledge their work as teachers: bearers of knowledge, eyewitnesses to the epistemic beauty of truth and language. Aesthesia is something I never could have imagined myself even casually spearheading in my own lifetime, so to see it expand and take form in this way, cradled by people I know and trust, who have then handed it off to me, is truly mesmerizing. It feels almost unreal, theatrical—an illusory dance in my head, the static of my synapses flickering alive and then tapering into a muddled cluster of neural fibers. All of this to say, LitMag is looking for domain editors—and is also scrounging the premises for creative writing enthusiasts willing to submit to our annual publication. Our only caveat is commitment—we need truly dedicated and wholly invested individuals to take precedence in these positions of leadership. A digital form has already been sent out about applying for editorial positions, but please feel free to contact me at vrinda.chatterjee@mvschool.com with any questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you there!
