Each edition, the Ram Report is planning on spotlighting a teacher at MVS! This week, we interviewed Ms. Miller, who teaches English in the Upper School. Here’s what she had to say!

Do you have a favorite book or book series?

“Favorite books are like favorite children- it’s hard to choose. I mostly love what I currently am in the middle of reading. I have loved teaching I Am the Cheese and Dandelion Wine. For non-fiction, Glennon Doyle’s book, Untamed, really struck a chord with me.”

How did you get to where you are today?

“I am very blessed. I have known great educators and friends who helped me along the way. Somehow, I end up at the right spot at the right time. Before teaching, I worked for Workers’ Compensation, then I spent 21 years teaching at Alter and 1 year at Belmont. I was fortunate enough to have a friend encourage me to apply at MVS and it has been the best!”

If you could tell your high school self one thing, what would it be?

“Try everything! You never know if you will like it, but at least you gave it a shot! Don’t be afraid of what others think. Be yourself. The world only has one you. Be you.”

What do you like to do in your free time?

“I love live music. I love finding new restaurants and other businesses in Dayton. I love to travel. I love spending time with my friends. And the best thing is snuggling with my pup, Percy Jackson. He’s a great snuggler.”

Would you rather travel 100 years forward or back in time? Why?

“I’ve already been 100 years in the past and 100 years in the future- it’s called books! I’d rather visit those places on paper and enjoy where I am right here and now.”
